Quitting smoking is an arduous task. The addiction to nicotine can be crippling and not to mention the headaches, body aches, and sweating. Then the urges kick in stronger. Then you realize you lost your way to keep the edge off. But it doesn’t have to be so bad if you tackle it the right way. Here is a short list of suggestions about what you can do.
Resist!
Fighting that urge is going to be hard. Accept that and then move on to beating it. You have to acknowledge that you will have urges but they will pass. Then if that mindset isn’t working then you can do things to take your mind off of them. Things you can do include taking a walk, doing yoga, mediating, working out, running even. Get creative and make sure you like doing what you’re doing to resist, because if you can find an excuse out of doing something you can find an excuse to give in to the urge.
Get Support
Getting support will be one hugely beneficial thing that you can do. If you have a support buddy you can turn to them whenever you have an urge an they can be your anti-drug. Use that other person to talk you away from it or whatever it takes for you to stop. If they’re your friend they will help you out!
Stay positive
The worst thing you can do when you are trying to quit smoking is by being negative, pouting, and complaining. It will not help you reach your goal. So maybe try venting every once in awhile but adapting a positive outlook on this will only benefit you.
